Yes, you can. It's the same length master's as any other. (1 year full-time)

It depends on the state. In California, you would be shooting yourself in the foot. A masters would mean you have way too many units and you would cost too much to hire. However, in many states you have to have a masters. Also, you will likely need extra education for your administrative license. So, get your teaching license, get a job, then decide. If you want to be a principal some day, get the educational leadership masters.

The free education MIGHT end January 1st 2010, the parliament is going to vote on that in a couple of weeks. The education is worth as much as it is in Britain and the US (though we don't have any universities like Harvard or Oxford.. but no one else in the world does either so..). I can almost guarantee that you're not gonna get a job here after graduation. Unemployment is expected to rise to over 10% in the next few years.

if you want to teach accounting, you can get a masters in education. If you wantto teach another subject you need to go back to school for a second BA

You should check into transition to teaching programs. I have a bachelor's in Psychology and Sociology and was able to enroll in a transition to teaching program and teach while I was working on my master's in education. (I graduate in May!!) Check out the sites below:

if you want to do this as cheaply as possible, you may want to consider an ACP. Search for "alternative certification program" and the name of your city. Look at the websites and see which offer an internship type program. here is how mine (ACT houston) went. We had class on Monday nights and almost all day Saturday for about 2 months. I was taught by two teachers in the district I currently work for. One of the teachers gave me a lead (my former AP had just been given a new school). I used her recommendation to get me an interview. In the interview, I used the name of the other instructor because she was so well respected in the district. I interviewed at two places. The first school, the principal said that the HR department said they couldn't hire me because i was an ACP candidate. The second principal went to HR and fought for me and I got the job. Sometimes it is harder to get in, but it is the quickest way. During my first year, it was my internship. I was observed several times by my ACP, went to monthly meetings, and the principal had to agree to resign me. When he agreed, I was able to get my certificate (as opposed to the 1 year probationary certificate). Each ACP is different, but I think my ACP did a very good job and gave me lots of support. I had to take my content exam before my internship and I took the teaching exam during my internship. During the internship, money to pay the ACP was taken directly out of my paycheck (which is much better than having to take out a loan). Before you do this though, PLEASE make sureyou want this. Many people quit within the first couple years because I think they underestimate the utter work required, the stress, and the way the kids will behave. Good luck.

Can I pursue a Master of Science in Education although my undergraduate degree was not in education

Can I pursue a Master of Science in Education although my undergraduate degree was not in education?
I don't have a Bachelors Degree in Education but I have received a State Teaching Certificate and I am currently teaching. Can I pursue a Master of Science Education although my undergraduate degree was not in education. I am currently certified and teaching so doesn't that qualify me to pursue a Master of Science in Education. I don't want to obtain the degree and my work be in vain.

No problemo. Most Masters are in fact conversion degrees to qualify you in an area different from your undergrad. The most famous example is an MBA. And guess what - education is one of those most. Know heaps of people who had an undergrad in all sorts of things like biochemistry but did a Masters to become teachers. Didn't' like teaching though and left - but that's another story. Thanks Bill
